Davide Sora , Born in Cremona on January 7th 1964, Davide Sora got his degree at the International Violin Making School of Cremona in 1982, under the guidance of masters Primo Pistoni and Giobatta Morassi. He started his activity by attending the “Workshop-School CEE” for some years, where he had the chance to improve his style and technique experimenting with different approaches to violin making. In 1986 he opened his own workshop in Cremona, at 22 via Decia, where he is still practising his profession along with his wife Annamaria Menta, also violin maker. He took part in some violin making exhibitions in Italy and abroad, like the “Contemporary Violin Making Exhibition” on the occasion of Stradivari’s celebration for the 250th anniversary of Antonio Stradivari death. He was awarded in three editions of Triennale Internazionale di Cremona: in 1991 with silver medal and diploma of merit for the finalists for a viola; in 2003 with third prize for a violin and then, in 2006 with silver medal for the second prize for another violin. He devotes himself to the merely artisan making of violins, violas and cellos following the ancient cremonese method based on the internal form. He concentrates his work to the building of new instruments with particular attention to the tonal quality and setting-up. Great care is also given to the aesthetic aspect, always working to the highest level of workmanship. All his instruments are registered in his personal archive with detailed photos and measurements as a guarantee against falsifications and his production is limited to four or five instruments per year. From 2000 he is collaborating with the violin making school of Cremona teaching to the fourth year students.
